What type of clear vinyl sheets should I use to replace a rear window of a Sebring convertible top?

June 22010

Posted in vinyl | 1 Comment »

I’m thinking of just using a clear vinyl sheet and velcro strips to replace a rear window on my Sebring convertible.I just don’t know what KIND of clear vinyl sheets I should use.Any suggestions anyone? Thanks.

You’re going to have nothing but trouble if you try a do it yourself repair, like constant leaks, or the plastic popping out on the highway. Not sure of wear you live, but I would get a price from either an automotive glass shop, or convertible top business as this is a specialized area of repair. Good luck

Can I put a subfloor over old vinyl tiles?

May 312010

Posted in vinyl | 6 Comments »

We are installing a new floor and want to put an underlayment subfloor down first. Can we put the underlayment over the old vinyl tiles or do we have to pull up the vinyl tiles prior to instlalling the underlament. The extra height the vinyl adds will be minimal.

Yes. That is the best thing to do. Many times old tiles come up grudgingly and piece by piece. A real thankless job indeed. Only drawback is that you may need to trim the bottoms of some door. But still that is much easier than stripping the old ones. Use as thin an underlayment as you can find. 1/4 inch luann is best bet.

How does wide format vinyl wrap printing work?

May 282010

Posted in vinyl | 1 Comment »

I am trying to learn about the wide format vinyl wrap printing process that you see on cars, billboards, posters, and even buildings now. I can’t find a website that explains the process or talks about who are the big players in producing the printers and supplies (vinyl, ink, what else?). If anyone can provide information or give me a link that helps me understand the process that would be awesome. Thanks.

If you are in the houston area and need a full color vehicle wrap try image32 at www.image32.com.

If you are wanting to get into the business try www.fellers.com

great printers can be found from HP, Colorspan, Mutoh, and Roland.

I know that flexible curves (a ruler used by artists and engineers to aid curve drawing) have a lead core in the centre, but I would like to know what type of flexible vinyl material is used to coat this core?

How do i remove a vinyl sticker off my laptop without ruining it?

May 222010

Posted in vinyl | 4 Comments »

I don’t have a vinyl sticker on my laptop, but I do have one that i want to put on. But just in case i don’t like it, i was wondering if it will be easy to remove the sticker or is there a special way i need to remove it without ruining my laptop.
I have a toshiba.

Thanks!
I tried searching the net, but its mostly removal of vinyl stickers off of cars or your wall or tutorials on how to place a vinyl sticker on your laptop.

For most vinyl stickers use a hair dryer. It wont damage your laptop as long as you don’t keep it on for a long time. Just a little heat usually removes most stickers.

Be very careful using nail polish remover as this could damage the plastic.

How to clean vinyl tile that never seems to be clean?

May 192010

The vinyl tile is two years old and we bought it from Lowes. I have been mopping the floor with many cleaners, but it still seems to have like a layer of grime on the top, even though I’ve just cleaned it. I’ve been walking around my house with socks all the time to avoid feeling it on my feet. My socks always look dirty no matter how much I try to clean the floor. Is this something that happens with vinyl tile? Does anyone know what to do about this very annoying problem?

Try using a new mop, hot water and white vinegar to remove the film left behind by the cleaners.

1/2 cup vinegar to 1 gallon of water.

When finished, rinse the mop until the water is clear.
